Moriston

As ever the Sunday release will be the river Moriston, one of the jewels of the Lochaber area and indeed the Highlands as a whole. Challenging but never desperate (if you have the skills), there are two sections of whitewater that will delight with close-packed sequences of drops and longer reapids sure to get the blood pumping!

Over the last few years we’ve become aware of some “near misses” on the Moriston on WWPF Sunday. At grade 4/5 the Moriston is a challenging and dangerous river and may not be suitable for less experienced boaters. Just because there will be a lot of people padling the river on Sunday doesn’t make it any easier! There is the very real risk of serious injury if things do not go to plan on the Moriston. If in doubt, inspect, set up safety and all the other things your group would do on a trip of this nature.

Although there will be organised first aid provision, please be aware that no organised safety cover will be provided on the day; in the best traditions of Scottish paddling, all groups will be expected to take responsibility for their own safety!

To reduce our impact on the area parking has been provided at the Invermoriston Shooting club just off the A887 north of Invermoriston, please use the shuttle bus provided. To help prevent people jamming up the village car park, this year there will be no refreshments served in the village hall. Instead you will be able to get this from the event base at the club.

Getting to the Moriston:

Drive north from Fort William on the main A82, turn left at Invermoriston(A887, signed for Portree and Kyle of Lochalsh) after 40 miles. The Shinty Club is just through the village on the left of the road, you won’t miss the event banners!

See below for the location in Google maps or click here for directions/map travelling up from Fort Bill.
